COMunity got several good news during the months of April and May. The grant proposals that were recently submitted were granted , thereby opening the door to new projects… and the pursuit of ongoing ones. |

- The MAuD project (Metaheuristic Automated Design) will come as a complement to the Eva project. This project entitled “Automated design of algorithms and circuits for signal processing” will be funded for a period of 3 years through the FQRNT Team research project program. The researchers involved in this project include professors François Gagnon and Claude Thibeault from ETS and Michel Gendreau from the University of Montreal.

 |
- Finally some equipment available for modification ! The allocation of two NSERC Research tools and instruments grants will allow our researchers to acquire some equipment that precisely meets their needs.

 |
| |
|
The first grant pertaining to an “Ad-hoc network emulator by means of military radios” will enable the purchase of two Ultra Electronics military radios as well as a vector signal analyzer. This grant will support numerous research activities carried out by professors Gagnon and Kouki through the set up of an ad-hoc network emulator. The radios will provide access to various analog/digital modules, which will allow the conduct of mixed digital-analog tests on a very wide frequency band encompassing most wireless business services.

The second grant entitled “New test/diagnostic methods on “flip chip” type chips based on static and dynamic power consumption” led by professor Thibeault, will allow the purchase of a flip chip probe card to be integrated into ETS’ future clean room. The purchase of this card will benefit a series of research projects specializing in the design of test/diagnostic methods for integrated circuit chips.

- A partnership with China. The Quebec department for economic development, innovation and exporting (MDEIE) recently granted some financial support to ETS within the framework of its Quebec-China call for proposals for the implementation of a project pertaining to wideband wireless terminals. The kick-off meeting of the DEIBI project (Deployment, Evolution and Interoperability of Broadband Interfaces) took place in China during the first week of May. Professor Gagnon, Mr. Olivier Munger, research professional, and Mr. Charles Despins, the Prompt-Québec President, attended this meeting and met with ZTE and WiCo, industrial and academic partners.

- The RTRx project, which started during the summer of 2005, will be pursued thanks to the financial support of NSERC through its Idea to Innovation program. This project is led by professors F. Gagnon, C. Thibeault, E. David and J. Belzile.
