St-Jérôme, June 19, 2008 - COMunity’s mobile unit easily succeeded in its first major test, which allowed Ultra Electronics to establish a 32 Mbits point-to-point link over a 55km distance. A special thanks to Christian Talbot for his excellent on-site support. Laurent Mouysset, Raphael Labedan and Mathieu Hémon will keep carrying out additional tests for the WiMAX technologies, which will allow us to develop an excellent test expertise for all kinds of environments.

Cambridge, July 11, 2008 - After receiving an invitation from Professor Vahid Tarokh from Harvard University, COMunity went to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend a workshop at Harvard. Professor Tarokh and his team made us feel very welcome. An unforgettable and extraordinary experience
Professor Tarokh is a leading expert in his field and one of the 10 most cited researchers in computer science. He also invented the spatio-temporal concept that is used in most modern wireless systems.
Professors Tarokh and Gagnon, together with some of their students, presented their respective research activities and also exchanged views on the convergence of their research efforts. Mr. Denis Couillard from Ultra Electronics also attended the workshop and presented the company’s views pertaining to cognitive radios. A joint collaboration on several subjects including the dynamic allocation of frequency bands for ad-hoc networks, distributed algorithms and signal processing for asynchronous chips can be foreseen. Furthermore, student exchanges are planned. |

In brief, the future of our relationship is looking great. Our activities are complementary in many ways: they have new algorithms and a theory that supports them, while we have the capacity to demonstrate their practical application. We are expecting the visit of Professor Tarokh at ETS in the near future. |
The day ended by a meal at John Harvard's Brew House |

Montréal, July 14, 2008 - SYTACom-ETS organized a "POSTER+BBQ" activity. Students and professors from McGill, Concordia and ETS got together to present their research subject at ETS’ Atrium. The presented subjects focused on various aspects of electrical engineering such as signal processing, optical networks, ad-hoc networks and microelectronics. Overall, 17 posters were presented by 20 students. |

The activity started up with two conferences, one by Professor François Gagnon from ETS, the other one by Mr. Pierre Boucher from Ericsson Canada. About fifty participants then headed towards the hall of residence where volleyball and barbecue were awaiting them. While continuing their discussions, the participants enjoyed a beer from the "À la fût" microbrewery created by old members of the LACIME laboratory. |
