SIMIT - Invited Professor

January 14th,
2009 - The CRÉER, Centre de Recherche En Électronique Radiofréquence, is a research center dedicated to the field of radiofrequencies and electronics. Professors Ammar Kouki, François Gagnon and Vahé Nerguizian from ÉTS are members of this group of university researchers coming from 10 affiliated universities. More than fifty participants attended the event which took place at the Nortel auditorium. It gave professors and researchers the opportunity to present their research results and research fields.

SYTACom - Pizza Talk

January 23rd, 2009 - COMunity received about fifteen student members of SYTACom in ÉTS’ faculty lounge. This was the opportunity for COMunity to ease the task of the McGill branch of SYTACom, which organizes this activity twice a month. Youness Nohair, Ph.D. candidate at ÉTS, presented his work on a mu-MIMO algorithm for fast channel transitions. The students were then able to share around a slice of pizza.

NEW PARTNERSHIP - IREQ

January, 2009 - A new research project in partnership with the Institut de recherche d'Hydro-Quebec (IREQ) begins. This project aims to characterize the communications media in a high voltage environment. This work will complement the knowledge of a particular spectral environment which has up to now been characterized only for relatively low frequencies.

Février 2009
- Professor François Gagnon is appointed as an invited professor at SIMIT, Shanghai Institute on Microsystems and Information Technologies, as part of the China-Québec collaboration. (see document)

CHAIRE ULTRA - New project

February, 2009 - A new research project associated to Ultra Electronics (TCS) Chair in Wireless Communications receives funding from Prompt. Entitled « Development, Integration and Testing of Cognitive Radio Algorithms and Enabling Devices », this 2-year project will enable the Chair to develop cognitive and cooperative communications and to push back wireless communications limits by significantly improving their efficiency. It will leverage the Tactical Communications Laboratory (TCL) that is ideally configured to develop, implement and test algorithms, devices and new features. The project will be supported by Ultra, which will dedicate engineers for hardware and software modifications.
