April 28, 2009 - ÉTS was hosting SYTACom 2009 Annual Workshop on April 28. Throughout the day, numerous talks pertaining to the areas of expertise of Professors Vahid Tarokh (Harvard University), Alberto Leon-Garcia (University of Toronto) and François Gagnon (ÉTS) were presented. Overall, 120 people attended this event, during which 36 students were given the opportunity to present their research projects in a poster session. Moreover, 14 graduate students from SYTACom affiliated universities competed in an oral presentation contest. Shastri Bhavin won the 1st prize while the 2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded respectively to Speransky Konstantin and Nechay Daniel. SYTACom Recognition Awards, rewarding exceptional contributors, were also held during the Annual Workshop. This year laureates are Leslie Rusch (Université Laval) for the Graduate Student Supervision Award, Harry Leib (McGill University) for the Networking and Knowledge Diffusion Award, François Gagnon for the Industrial Collaboration Award and finally, Ke Wu for the Community Service Award.

ULTRA CHAIR Invited Speaker

 

 


April 30, 2009 – Professor Octavia Dobre, from Memorial University, Newfoundland, presented her work on blind modulation classification on April 30 at Ultra Electronics. This allowed community members and Ultra Electronics engineers to learn more on signal classification using cyclostationarity. Prof.  Dobre research interests include blind modulation classification, parameter estimation techniques, cognitive radio systems and resource allocation for emerging wireless networks.

CLEAN ROOM


April 2009 – This facility is now at the deployment stage. Once completely operational, the clean room will expand LACIME activity range and provide researchers with LTCC (Low Temperature Co fired Ceramics) advanced integration capability for micro systems.

 


     


MARC GARNEAU VISITS THE LAB

April 30, 2009 – As part of an institutional visit, ETS’ management invited Mr. Marc Garneau, member of Parliament and Liberal Party representative of the Westmount – Ville-Marie electoral district, to appreciate the university expertise through a visit of the LACIME. Profs. Kouki and Thibeault took the opportunity to present the numerous laboratory accomplishments and technical capabilities. “A fascinating visit, showcasing an impressive expertise and extraordinary industrial synergy” said Mr. Garneau.

March 2009 -
2 new associate professors: Professors Honglin Hu, of Shanghai Research Center for Wireless Communications and Basile L. Agba, former  COMunity post-doctoral fellow and currently researcher at IREQ have recently been promoted associate professors at ÉTS.

April 2009 - Zouheir Rezki, one of our post-doctoral fellows, recently won a FQRNT postdoctoral research scholarship. We congratulate him and encourage him towards the achievement of his career objectives.

April 2009 – Newly awarded grant: a research grant from FQRNT’s « Projet de recherche en équipe » program was awarded to Professor Ammar Kouki, who looks forward to demonstrate the potential gains of a technology intended to improve mobile communications using satellite positioning in the context of tactical communications. This project will be realized in collaboration with Professor François Gagnon and Dr. Basile Agba, IREQ researcher and associated professor of the Electrical Engineering Department of ÉTS.

May 2009 - A "Best Student Poster Award" for Christelle Hobeika. Christelle is a Ph.D. student involved in the OPERA's and supervised by professor Claude Thibeault and, one of Professor Claude Thibeault Ph.D. students, co-supervised by Professor Jean-François Boland. Christelle was awarded this prize for her poster entitled "Use of Structural Tests in RTL Verification" that was presented at the IEEE VLSI Test Symposium, a conference considered the 2nd most important in the field of integrated circuits testing. This conference took place from May 4 to May 6 in Santa Cruz, California.
